Irish Kiltmaker
For any forumites located in Ireland, came across Altnaveigh Tartan Enterprises today. Their index of Irish County Tartans looked quite extensive. No pricing info, but you can read an article about them here.
Best regards,
Jake

How about that!?
They're a NOT FOR PROFIT, COMMUNITY BASED business. How often do you see that anymore?
A cottage industry too. But boy, that website is soooo busy...hard to focus for all the picies dancing around.

Looks like a splendid enterprise but I think they need to put some price indications on their site.

That's one of the reasons why I list Altnaveigh Tartan Enterprises Ltd.in my links section at Kiltphotos.com. They may not be well known (here at Xmarks) but any business that gives back to its community is a good thing.
Not to get off the subject, but just an FYI for anyone interested: The Irish county tartans Altnaveigh offers are from Marton Mill's "Irish Tartan Crest" collection; these are not same as the more commonly seen House of Edgar's "Irish County" tartans. While both lines appear to have the same "intention" of (unofficially) representing each Irish county, differences between each mill's county tartan are striking. For example:
Marton Mills' County Cavan tartan (photo courtesy of Rocky at USA Kilts):
House of Edgar's County Cavan tartan (photo courtesy of my wife):
It's a matter of taste but no matter what tartan you like, I think Altnaveigh's altruistic business efforts serve as a fine example for the kilt making industry.

Hey, thanks for pointing that out. Had considered a County Louth tartan for my Irish heritage, but the Marton Mills one is nearly the same as their Ireland's National - which I already have in PV semi-trad from Rocky.
Was difficult to find a pic of the House of Edgar tartan....is it arrogance or stupidity to want to sell tartans without displaying them?...or am I missing something on the site? Finally found both the MM and HoE on the Heritage of Scotland tartan look up site. Still have to "order material" to find out the weight and maker...but they were both there.

Riverkilt if you want to see the tartan of the counties of Irerland from house of Edger just ask Kathy Lare next time you see her she has the swatches available for the looking. They only come in 13oz though.

I saw the lovely collection of House of Edgar Irish swatches at the Celtic Craft Centre in Edinburgh and friend Andrew ordered the Country Antrim complete with hand fringed plaid from them.
I shall try to get some piccies in due course!
