Ouch. That remark hurt a little....
I was listening to my favorite PRI radio station this afternoon (KiltedMusicLover, Tartan Hiker, you know to whom I refer) and the afternoon announcer (Roland) was discussing the video of a song from a Scots folk group that he had just played and said that "they looked a little silly in the kilts" and followed that up with "but they're Scottish, so I guess it's okay".
To be honest, I was working and not paying attention to the song (till I heard the word "kilt") since this station, www.wncw.org , plays a fair bit of celtic tunage, but c'mon. That was uncalled for. It kinda hurt my feelings. I have half a mind to send him a scathing email.
It's still a great station that plays a lot of local and a ton of celtic and world music including 3 hours of dedicated celtic on Sundays. Plus they have hosted a number of celtic concerts and bands. So I can forgive them.

Ah.... don't let it get you down. You know most of these DJ's have a "Radio Face." You know, the kind only a mother could love !!
In the morning you will still look dapper in a kilt and the DJ will still be ugly, facetious twit!!

I say send the e-mail. Insults to kilts by the media should be dealt with.

Difficult one to call, not having seen the video. Maybe the DJ's opinion was a bit weird and the guys actually looked very smart and fashionable in their kilts, or maybe they did look silly in their kilts - pleats to the front, sporrans worn round their necks, perhaps?

Would he say a country and western group looked silly in their outfits? There is enough ethnic profiling with the TSA and the news media, let's not let it go. Call him on this one!

Dear XXX(forgive me if that’s not your name),
I am sorry you took offense this afternoon. I am sure Roland meant no harm or disrespect, but I completely understand your reaction. I will pass on your complaint to him.
We hope you can forgive us and continue enjoying and supporting our programming!

As C152T said we don't know what they were dressed like in the video. The band may have been insulting to kilt wearers and the DJ was commenting on that. Although Barclay might have been correct in his assumtion none of us know what video was being commented on. To take offense at a DJ that was defending the kilt would be a mistake.
