    Box-pleated tartan hiking kilt underway!

Alan H has done it again...after making 6 solid and camo X-kilts now I've got to make a box-pleated tartan hiking kilt. I chose Thompson Camel tartan in 12-oz PV from Celtic Croft. I like the colors and they match Fred the Dog pretty well, and since he's my best hiking buddy I thought we should coordinate a bit (wife rolls eyes).

I don't intend to give a stitch-by-stitch account, but I will post a few pics here as things progress. I'm going to pleat to the vertical white stripe and that will center the red vertical stripe between the pleats.

Looks like a great tartan - hope Fred is going to get something out of it, too!

A tartan to match the dog - that's one I haven't come across before.

Rawk! Fred looks like he's jonesing for a jacket in that tartan to match Dad on the trail!

I like the tartan, it looks a lot like Burbury, which I have loved for a long time. I have to agree, I buy dog collars to match the dogs and dog jackets to match the dogs, but a kilt to match the dogs isn't something I've ever considered.

Now that you mention it I wouldn't be surprised if a bit of fabric couldn't be made into a collar for faithful Fred. He already has one in MacDonald, so why not?

I have an old neck tie in Henderson (ancient.) It's old, and as a couple of small holes in it. So, Nikki is going to make a collar from it for Winston (Shih Tzu) to match Dad's kilt.

I really like that tartan. Don't think I have seen it before. Will be waiting on progress pics.

So, on with the kilt. I'm really looking forward to seeing your pics of the kilt's construction. Are there going to be pockets?
