    To all woodworkers

I heard about these tablesaws at work and thought if they work, they are absolutely amazing. It is designed to save fingers and thumbs. For those who inadvertantly have a finger in the path of the blade, the blade stops and retracts in miliseconds upon contact. The blade will be destroyed but you'll only be left with a nick. To see a demonstration and the saw go to Sawstop. Myself, having only 9½ fingers* due to a stupid accident years ago, I cannot recommend something like this enough.

    * By the way, thank you all for not making fun of my speech impediment as I type my thoughts.

That is amazing! Thanks for sharing. I wish the bush hog I went under had a similar system:-) But knowing that system is out there, I doubt I would buy a table saw without it.

They did a demo of this saw on "This Old House" a few weeks ago. They used a hot dog to test it. The blade retracted instantly without a mark on the hotdog. They said it has a sensor of some type that senses moisture (I.E. a finger).

    Very cool technology.

From what I read they send a small electrical charge through the blade, since wood has low conductivity its fine. When it hits a finger or hot dog the electrical sensor goes nuts and blows a fuse. Destroys a blade and the enclosed aluminum block - $170. I for one would gladly pay that knowing that I saved a finger. Now if only they had a retrofit for my Craftsman saw. What really is amazing is that they are building prototypes for band saws, mitre saws and even circular saws.

For $170 - say sacrifice the finger. Have we all turned into wimps?
Now a thumb would be a different matter!

I can see it now - in a redneck ('bout the only kind, locally) bar, wearing a kilt, drinking "Butt-light" thru a straw! See the crowd of admirers? Wait, why are they carrying bats...
