Military Kilts and Accessories
With all the recent talk of people getting leatherneck and army kilts, I decided to google Military tartans and accessories to see whats out there. I found this site: Alexis Malcolm Kilts
They have a bunch of stuff but these are the pages that have specifically US Military stuff.

They have Military kilt pins, belt buckles, and all the US military tartans avaible to be made into kilts. They look pretty cool. Has anyone dealt with these guys before?

USCG kilt
Alexis Malcolm does indeed like to do military themed kilts.
This looks like a good place to ask my question - Alexis Malcolm is where the USCG Pipe Band gets its kilts. I think the pattern is protected for their use, but not sure. Does anyone know if there are other kiltmakers who would make up a kilt with this tartan? It is tartan # 4068 on the STA tartan index.
Thanks in advance,
Matt

Alexis does great work. That's where I got my Army tartan kilt, as well as my MacIan tartan one.

They seem to do some pretty good work in the kilt department, but I recently ordered a tam from them which was advertised as "The Regimental Tam-O-Shanter" with a photo of a true highland issue tam, complete with badge backer and KOSB badge. I ordered it to come with a Hunting Robertson backer (for obvious reasons). I wanted to try a few different things with the badge.
What I got was more like an inexpensively made balmoral without grosgrain headband and with no ribbons at the back. It looks nothing like a regimental tam--color and style are all wrong--although it's an OK item. The real kicker was that the tartan backer was sewn on the wrong place. I don't know who made that booboo, but it's unwearable until I can pick the threads and resew.
But my biggest complaint is the failure to deliver what is advertised. It's a tam, and it's manufacture is fine, but it's not a regimental tam-o-shanter. I own several, and I know what they look like.

Alexis (a female) is a wonderful lady. She is the one who designed the Army tartan with Strathmore and is pretty open about people using it. STRATHMORE is a bit more controlling with it (I had to pay them a surcharge for the right to use it), but Alexis is VERY easy to get along with.

Alexis Malcolm is fabulous; the Queen of Kiltmakers. I have nothing but good things to say about her. She did an amazing job on my wedding kilt outfit last fall (see avatar), and right now she is making a pair of tartan ties for me. You can't go wrong with Alexis: she is knowledgeable, capable, and friendly.
