Warning to All
:buttkick: RED ALERT
This last week has been pure hell for my family, why,my daughter had her purse with all her IDs and checkbook stolen 3 years ago. The aftermath still continues to this day, she was arrested AGAIN this week and we are still lawyering to get her released. She did everything we thought of to stop problems at the start of this mess but it WAS NOT ENOUGH!!!!! HERE IS A LIST OF WHAT HER LAWYER SAID SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE:
\1. File a police report
2.Cancel ALL her plastic (Both ATM and creditcards)
3. Go IN PERSON to her bank, talk to an officer at the bank and determine just which check was the last number SHE wrote place, a hold on the account with enough money in it to pay that check ,and CLOSE the account.
4. Notify all 3 credit reporting agencies of the ID theft both by phone and certified mail (return reciept).
5. EVERY TIME she was notified of any activity on ANY of the closed account go IN PERSON to the police and file a sworn affedavit of fraud.
6. Go to that county DA IN PERSON and insuere they have recieved a copy of THAT affedavit GET IT IN WRITING.
7. Lobby your congressman and senators to make Identity Theft a federal crime with a VERY stiff mandetory jail sentance!!!
To make this even more fun our lawyer said all these steps may stop about hafl of the aftermath. If you stick your head in the sand you will get the same grief that she did

Identity theft is, in my opinion... one of the worst crimes that can be committed. It ruins people's lives/livelihood, and when you DO try and perform said reports... the people treat you as if YOU are the fraud.

ID theft is not only a PITA (does every know this one?), but the aftermath goes on forever. It used to be you could have your wallet/purse stolen, cancel all your credit cards and bank accounts and have them re-issued and you were set. Now it can haunt you for years.

This is one of those cases where "overkill" in punishment is hard to achieve.
The side of me would LOVE to unleash some Assyrian punishments upon them. Flaying alive would only be too kind .
The rest of me holds me back (a little).
