Fly Plaid - Macdonald Modern Dress

Well, fresh from the success of the Flashes I made for my Dad, I've finally finished the fly plaid he wanted to go with them.

I started out with a large rectangle for fabric.

Then I folded the edges until we found a way that it would hang on my dad similarly to a 'proper' fly plaid.

Then we trimmed it to that shape.

Once that was done it was off to my mum's house to borrow her sewing machine. No pictures of that, but it was a very simple stitch the whole way around about an inch from the edge of the fabric.

Then I used a normal sewing needle to pick away all the excess thread and create a fray.

We ended up with this... The Fly and the Flashes...

And here are two pictures of him in the whole outfit.
(Forgive the expression on his face, he's just made backup discs of all 8 series of Charmed for my sister and is about to go do a 12 hour night-shift at work. poor man.)

That's a nice job, Arlen. It hangs very well. I made a mini-plaid but didn't taper the end. I may have to look into that.....

    Thanks.
I originally had the end with the smaller taper and the 'v' being at the top, but found it ung better if that was at the bottom and the 'u' taper was at the top.

Nice job Arlen. Good for you to help keep your Dad supplied with cool kilt accessories. Need to get a piccie of you and your Dad kilted together for the "Generations" picture thread.

    Thank you.
I think I have a few pictures of he and I.
At family weddings everyone is kilted except from my Dad's twin brother, but we never seem to get any full length pictures.
I may have to take one.
