At the post office this morning
Shipping out an order.
One of the security guards wanted to know if he could ask me a few questions. Now, I've had nothing but trouble with these folks, time and time again, and I thought to my self "oh noes, here we goes."
Turns out, it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. He told me that he didn't much care for kilts, and he meant absolutely no offense by that, but he was kinda curious about the kilt that I was wearing. The brown Freedom Kilt. He'd never seen a solid coloured kilt before... Turns out, he just didn't like tartans, and he had no clue that there were solid coloured kilts.
The other guards at the federal building were rolling their eyes and what not as we talked. They clearly did not like this development.
He was really impressed when I pulled a pen out of one of the pockets... He LIKED the pockets. He said he didn't know if he was comfortable wearing a purse, but he said he liked the pockets. I wrote down a couple of websites on a piece of paper for him, Freedom Kilts, XMTS, Amerikilts, etc.
The one sour moment... He asked, "Why brown? Why not blue or black? Like a pair of pants? The brown is awful." I very politely told him that brown was earthy and would look nice with a green shirt and socks. (I didn't dare say hose, he might have got the wrong idea, I figured I was on thin ice to begin with) I told him they also make kilts out of camo. I thought both of his eyebrows were going to flip over his skull and slide down his back. He said he'd love to see a camo kilt. That peaked his interest. I told him they make kilts from just about any camo pattern you could think of. You could actually see the wheels in his head turning. He thanked me quite nicely, checked my ID, shook my hand, and sent me on my way.
Why is everyone hating the brown? That seems to be the theme of this particular kilt. People say they like it, they just don't like the colour. That is a real testament to Steve's work... They can see the quality and the craftsmanship even through a colour they may not care for.
Here's to hoping he might pay us a visit. Maybe. Or least maybe buy a kilt. I'd settle for him just thinking about it for a good long while.

Good story.
As for the brown thing, I don't get it. I have never had anyone coment about my brown UK workmans or the dark brown corduroy. The only problem I have is that I don't like my brown belt.

This is South Khaki Laki. You see browns, but light shades. Either that, or pants in blue or black. I spent some time peoplewatching this morning. Lots of light khaki pants, some khaki shorts, lots of business suits in blacks, blues, and a couple of grays... Saw lots of people in denim pants. Blues and blacks. Saw people in shorts. Cut offs mostly.
I didn't see a lot of brown. Except for the UPS guys, one of whom said that that he would let his boss kick him in *bleep* for a chance to wear a brown kilt with his uniform in the summer.
One fellow did stand out. He was wearing bright green cargo pants covered with a zillion zippers and pockets. He also had one a white shirt and tie. He didn't fit in with the mass of people. Top half was clearly dressed for business... The bottom half was, well, out of place, but I had to say he carried off the look quite well.

Dread, perhaps its the time of year you are choosing to wear brown. I wear brown mostly in the fall. Unless its a lighter shade, you rarely see it worn in spring here. I get a lot of comments on my choice in clothing colors. Being that I normally wear black (It hides a multitude of sins) I get razzed about it by some. That said, I've not seen your brown kilt yet. I'm sure it looks awesome.
I'll have to show you my SOLAR garb when you come over next week for the BBQ. All bright and colorful. So unlike me.

Think so?
You might be right. Heck, you probably are right. But I don't recall seeing much brown in the fall either, with the exception being leather coats.
I hadn't thought of it being a "spring colours" sort of thing, but that does make a bit of sense.

Just think what the other postal employees would think if one of their own took to the kilt!

These guys aint postal workers. They are homeland security agents. The post office is in the federal building.
I really need to get my paws on a camo kilt. Either make one or buy one. And wear it.
As I think about it, I think wearing a camo kilt out in public is EXACTLY what this area needs, because camo is THE SHIZNIT. You see it everywhere. That might be just what it takes to win people over and get more folks (at least around here) wearing them.
