    Fly plaid loop

I recently got my first fly plaid. It came with the corner pleated and the pleat sewn in. A loop is sewn on the under side of the pleat. What does the loop go around?

It doesn't fit around the top button of the Prince Charlie, too far down.

It doesn't seem to fit on the button on the epaulet, too far up. In fact the bottom corner of the fly plaid drags the ground.

Does one sew a button on the left front of the PC for the loop to go around?

I used my plaid broach to connect my fly plaid to my PC.
And traditionally speaking, the end of the fly was made to create a swooping effect and the corner tucked in the back of the kilt between the back flaps of the PC. My wife and I studied the formal kilt attire the months leading to our wedding because I wondered what the handing end of my fly plaid was really supposed to do. Some actually pull the fly over the shoulder to make the whole side of the shoulder be covered in tartan.

I'll post a picture here soon.

Are yours fly plaids or piper's plaids? Piper's plaids generally don't have (or need) them.

I think what you may have is an epaulet loop. Try unbuttoning the epaulet and passing it through the loop.

Fly Plaid as worn for my wedding.
Through the epaulet on my PC and affixed to my jacket very carefully with the brooch. I've actually seen some PC's with 2 small black metal revits through so the broach pin doesn't harm the fabric.

If I do that, the end almost touches the ground. It's 51 inches by 41 inches, and larger than most fly plaids, which seem to be a yard or a meter square.
