Unkilted for an afternoon (or two)

I know it's a subject that comes up every once in a while, but I thought I'd tell y'all about the past couple of days that I've had. I've been full-time kilted since December, but I had a job interview to go to yesterday, at a place where kilt wearing would be a hazard. (swishing pleats getting caught by a passing forklift have featured in more than one of my nightmares since this opportunity came up...) So I decided to bite the bullet and wear pants. I dug out some sweats and had a practice afternoon Thursday. Itchy, uncomfortable, and downright painful. But that was nothing compared to yesterday. Dress slacks (the only non-sweats pants I had that still fit) are downright bloody EVIL!!!!!!! I was smart, however, and put a kilt in my briefcase to change into. The relief when I did so was both immediate and astounding. Why any man (other than an utter masochist) would voluntarily choose to do that to himself at a time when he didn't have to is completely and totally beyond me.

You have to ask yourself if you really want a job where you have to forego the comfort of a kilt. I took early retirement at 53 from managing a town hall, where I had the option of wearing a kilt to work and did so on or two days a week and I became self employed. There are days when I wonder if working for yourself is worth the hassle and whether I'd be better off joining some of my fellow retirees manning the checkouts and stocking the shelves in our local Morrisons supermarket, but one big thing that swings in favour of my present situation is being able to wear a kilt to my business on all but a very few days - in fact all the pleats swing in favour.
