    getting my "skirt" hemmed

With theater & opera season over I thought it’d be a good time to take my solid black kilt to the cleaners & at the same time have it hemmed. (Panache, this is why I like your solid black look that you posted …. I’m prejudiced ) It is just a little long. When I went into the cleaners and laid it up n the counter I showed the woman working there the pins where I needed the hem. Without me saying a word about “kilt” or “skirt” she says “Well we’ll send this to the seamstress as a heavy skirt. If I call it a kilt she’ll just ask all kinds of questions & probably want charge you more. When it gets back here I’ll make sure the pleats are laid flat before it gets pressed.” I always go there straight away from work so no one there has ever seen me in a kilt. This gal was just plain savvy.

That sounds like great advice/prompting/suggestion I could use when I stop by my local cleaners to have one of my kilts hemmed. Thanks!

I may have to bring my kilts to Memphis for more than a kilt nite.

So the seamstress won't recognize it as a kilt unless the cleaners tell her it's a kilt? That's strange.

Hey, this is Memphis The culturally savvy equivalent of Timbuktu. It did not surprise me When I go to pick it up I am asking the clerk how it was that she knew without my saying anything.
