Well Franklin is 300 miles from Vass.
So you may want to look at something a little bit closer.
I would say for cheap but clean look at Sanford or A
Fayetteville may have cheap but I would not trust it.
Some of their cheap is pretty rough.
Also being it is a long weekend I would
say some folks might be going to visit family members in
Fayetteville since it is a Military base town.

Sanford is around only about 18 to 20 miles from Vass.
I would also avoid Southern Pines and
Pinehurst as both are major golfing destinations and not cheap at all.
The link below lists all kinds of places to stay and can be sorted by milage form
    the town you are considering.

Kiltedmusiclover thanks for the information. It seems that the travel guides seem to leave this type of information out of their guides.

KML were you saying Sanford or Aberdeen? I think the software ate part of your text.

Those would be good choices, although Southern Pines/Pinehurst have a few affordable venues, too.

I believe there are some state parks and campgrounds in the general area, if that appeals to you. Enjoy your trip.

    I was actually saying either.
    Sorry for the computer error.

Sanford (north of Vass)or Aberdeen (South of Vass) both are not major tourist destinations and should still
have some nice places to stay at reasonable rates.

    Cacunn,

I would visit Pinehurst and Southern Pines.
Especially if you like golf at all.

My wife and I are looking for an inexpensive place to stay in the Fayetteville, NC area and some low cost thing to do. Since some of this rabble live in the area suggestions would be appreciated.

The hotel would not have to be in Vass and day trips through the country would be enjoyable.

Yes, I know that Franklin NC is not that far away. But, my wife says that after two trips to Phoenixville and two kilts, and something about me mumbling 4-yard box pleats in my sleep Matt's place is out for a while.
i live about an hour away from Vass in the state's capital: Raleigh. i agree with KiltedMusicLover.

Franklin is going to be a 6 hour drive from Vass. You really really do NOT want to stay in Fayetteville, especially if you are visiting Vass. right between Vass and Fayetteville are two military bases, and they no longer allow thru traffic. i hope i don't offend anyone by saying this but Fayetteville is a hole. as a proud North Carolinian i do not want others to learn of this state thru that city.

Sanford is not far away from Vass at all (19 miles). that town has grown alot recently and so i am sure you will find some good accommodations there should you find the Pinehurst/Southern Pines area to be expensive.

while you are in that area there are some nearby attractions you might want to consider: the state's capital is an hour away (Raleigh has some great museums: history, natural science, art, and a kid's museum with an IMAX cinema); Vass is 38 miles from Seagrove NC, this area is famous for pottery; about 10 miles north of Seagrove is the North Carolina Zoo; on the southwest side of Asheboro is the NC Aviation Museum; and yes Vass is very very close to Golfer's heaven; 3 state parks within an hour (rougly): Raven Rock, Morrow Mtn, and Jordan Lake; and lastly the nearest beach is 3 hours away: either North Myrtle Beach, SC or Wilmington NC.

hope this helps. feel free to bug me for specifics if you need.

I've stayed in Fayetteville loads of time working for the hospital in town. I've almost always stayed at the Comfort Inn Fayetteville-Cross Creek 1922 Skibo Rd.

    Good luck.

I can get you a room at the Raleigh Sheraton (based on availability) for $49.00 if you wanted to stay there. I know it's not near Fayettville, but I thought I'd offer.
