Washing and Pressing an SWK Economy
-

I'm quick and dirty. Wash with delicates, hang dry, "finger press" the pleats when you hang it up.

Yeah, when you take it out of the washer and hang it up, pinch each pleat between your fingers and draw your fingers down each pleat, fell to selvedge. Wait, on an economy SWK, there's no fell, so just go from waistband to selvedge. I use my fingers on the inside of the pleat, and my thumb on the outside.

Might that not stretch the fabric?

You need to do it lightly. If you grab the fabric and pull you can stretch the fabric. Start light and increase the pressure until you feel the fabric stretch then back off.
