A photo for cessna152towser
The skies above San Jose California were blue and clear this weekend. But there was something very different in the air. From my yard I looked up and saw a few World War II vintage bombers flying overhead at regular intervals. There were three in all. A B-24 Liberator, a B-25 Mitchell, and a B-17 Flying Fortress. The planes were visiting in nearby Moffett Federal Airfield in Mountain View, CA as a part of the Collins Foundation “Wings of Freedom tour”

I was lucky enough to be on their flight path so I heard their droning engines and saw the flash of the silver bodies often over the weekend (as I write this I can just hear just a little bit of one of those engines fading into the distance Northward.
It was an amazing feeling to see these old warriors airborne like they should be. I couldn’t help thinking how much Alex would have enjoyed seeing them in flight. I tried my best but I only managed one good picture. So here’s the B-17 as seen from my backyard.
So here’s to the legend of these mighty machines and the very brave men like Scot Gilmore’s Dad and the F-H.C.A.G.‘s Grandfather who flew them.
Cheers
Jamie

What a treat! Thanks for posting that pic.
My father flew Spitfires, Hurricanes, P-39s and trained B-25 pilots later in the war. My uncle flew PBYs for the Navy hunting subs.
Amazing times, amazing planes, amazing men.

My greatuncle was Army Air Corps, later U.S. Airforce. We buried him at Arlington. As someone that could never serve because of problems, it always causes me to get a bit misty when we hounor them.

It's great to be under one of those types of flight paths. Each year I get entertained on our back deck about this time of year. The US Air Force Acadamy graduation has multiple types of planes from WW1, WW2, Koren War and the more modern jets do a fly by. We have also watched the Blue Angels from our deck. I'll have to make sure the camera is handy next time.
