Canadian Flags on Freedom Kilts

The little Canadian flag on the back right hand pocket of the Freedom Kilt, as seen here on my olive grey cargo, is one of the little features which make Freedom kilts unique.
However there was no Canadian flag on the CADPAT Freedom Kilt which I bought from Riverkilt; whether there originally was one or whether as one of the earliest Freedom Kilts there never was one, Steve might know. However Grant (ccga3359) kindly sent me a muted Canadian flag which I was with some difficulty able to attach with a few stitches to the back right hand pocket of the Cadpat kilt - now I know what Steve meant about that Cadpat material being very difficult to sew!

I love subdued insignia. I think that's a great alternative for a camo Freedom kilt. VERY cool.

I suppose I should finally jump in on the subject of the little Canadian Flags on my kilts.

Ron is correct. At the time I made his kilts I had not started to put those little tags on my kilts. It was about 6-9 months later that I started.

I first looked into having them made as either woven or printed labels similar to the little labels in other clothing that tells you the fabric care instructions. After I got three quotes and found out what the minimum order quantity was I went to my local rubber stamp place and ordered a 3/8" x 3/16" rubber stamp of a Canadian Flag made. Then using fabric ink I stamp the fabric tape your Mom used for nametapes when you went to camp. I print up about a hundred at a time which is a strip about 10 ft. long. We then cut the strip and sew the flag to either the pocket flap or the logo when we sew the kilt.

The ink is supposed to be permanent if you set the ink with heat, but after repeated washings it does fade almost completely away.

I'm still trying to find a company that will do real nice flags for a reasonable price and without having to order 1000 yards at a time. (that's 1 flag every inch or 36000 flags. or 49.8 years of kilts at my present rate.)

That's Canadian right? As I started this discussion regarding the flag might I say I love this addition and in no way would want to see it disappear. It was a concern that it may fade only but if it does so be it. It's still a Freedom kilt, I bought mine because of the look and durability. Yes over time the flag may fade but so will the fabric, but by then I'd have had hundreds if not thousands of kilted enjoyment in it. I will not trade this experience for anything dare I say it but it will be like a favourite pair of faded jeans. When I saw Alex sporting the CADPAT I thought of how well the subdued maple leaf would just somehow fit. I'm glad Alex accepted the flag, I know he wears it to honour his relatives that have made a home for themselves in Canada. I appreciate C152T for that as I appreciate Steve for adding this little symbol of Canadian patriotism in all the kilts he makes. So this $568 replacement over thousands of hours of enjoyment is starting to sound reasonable.
