At the dentist's office.
So I had an appointment with the dentist today, and I happened to be wearing a kilt. So I walk in, and I sit down in the big comfy chair. The Hygenist clips the napkin around my neck and asks, "So, are you Scottish?" I'm like, "Uhh, yeah." I think she was genuinely interested in the kilt, with questions like "Are the colors associated with your family?" and "Is that your real hair color", but eventually her, and my dentist, started to ask really odd questions.
Some gems included: "You must've wanted a nice breeze with the heat today", "Are you go to play bagpipes today?", "Do you have a temper?", and (my personal favorite) "This might hurt a bit. Think of something to calm you down, like a pint of Guinness."
Now, don't get me wrong, I love me a pint of Guinness, but some of these things were borderline inappropriate. Also, I'm surprised he said that because I'm only 20 years old. Anyway, the kilt was nice, but since my mouth was (and still is) numb, I wasn't able to correct them about all that stuff.

Well, regardless of the location, the answers to all of those BUT the bagpipe question is YES.

LOL
Try going to the doctor's and have him say "er...ummm... ordinarily I would ask you to drop your pants right now but... uh..."

I love all the unexpected replies. I have yet to get one about having a temper.

The last time I was at the Dentist I was wearing my kilt and a cute blonde technician walks up to me and says "You are Dutch aren't you?" A little taken aback I said gently, "actually the kilt is Scottish". She looked at me and said, I know that. But your face and nose, you are of Dutch descent right?
What could I say but "err...yes you are very right... "
I had the strange feeling my Dutch ancestors were laughing at me from their graves...
Sorry your experience wasn't so amusing.
Cheers

Kilts are great, they are conversation starters, some good & some not so good. If you had worn trousers to the dentist, then they might not have spoken to you at all. The power of the kilt.

The last time I went to the dentist I had a tooth pulled. When he was done he said, "Since you're Scottish go home take a couple vicodin and drink a few beers and you'll be fine by tomorrow" My dentist is Irish lol

My dentist is Indian. I used the line "You don't have to be Scottish to be comfortable!" but I have the feeling that the only time I'd have a chance of seeing him in a kilt is at a wedding...and even then, it would be iffy.

Sorry for the uncomfortable questions. I think we do end up answering them as we each see fit. For me, I think the phase I'm in depends on the person asking and my micro-mood at the time. I might narrow my eyes to indicate inappropriateness or pursue further to suggest to a lady this isn't the sort of question a lady asks, but the response to where my bagpipes are might be: under me kilt. Best wishes and keep wearing the kilt.
