buchanan modern tartan
I am currently looking at the Buchanan Modern tartan from strathmore. I really like the tartan, but I have no tie to this family whatsoever. I know there are no rules on what tartan you can or cannot wear, part of me thinks I should get it, but the other part of me doesn't think it's a good idea.
Any input on this matter would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Mike

has anyone ever told you that you couldn't wear a football jersey because you didn't play for the team?

If you like it - wear it! As others will remind you, it is always a good idea to at least know the tartan, and perhaps a little background, for when you get the inevitable question ... "Are you a member of Clan X ?".

Are you making your own or having it made? Because its asymetrical, meaning that it would be easier to work with single width material rather than double width.
Also, do you prefer that brighter yellow that Strathmore uses?

buchanan modern
I like the red's better in strathmore, than lochcarron, personally. I looked at the buchanan weathered and reproduction tartans, but I don't like how the greens turn into brown. Not a favor of brown in a kilt, but that' s me.

You will find that the over-whelming agreement on XMTS is: "Wear what you like!" I also subscribe to that line of thinking.

Although I adhere to clan Gordon, I have several tartans from different clans because I wear them all the time. I really like my Buchanan modern, and I do have a minor connection. If you like it, wear it - it's a really bold, but (i think) classy look.

As it's been said before; "You don't have to be Chinese to eat chinese food, but you'd have to be insane to eat haggis" or something like that.
I've heard that the Buchanan were a frisky bunch way back yonder. So you may have a connection that just hasn't surfaced yet. Look on your great-great aunt Mildred's side...

I just got a Buchanan from Frugal Corner. It is a bright colorful tartan that I have no connection to the clan. I got it cause it looks good. Make that another vote for wear what you like.

I've a Buchanan tank from a pipe band. I really like it. My 5th Greatgrandfather knew a guy who lived next to a guy who borrowed a sweater from a Buchanan and never returned it. Other than a geographical connection there is no family Hx for me. O'Neille
