R-Kilt Review
Well, after a remarkably short wait (Thanks Robert!) I have received my first R-Kilt. I am thankful that I will be able to try it out in Niagara-On-The-Lake this weekend as my wife and I celebrate our 23rd anniversary. I will be able to give a more complete review after the weekend, but for now, let me share a few initial impressions.
First, it’s a bit snug. That is entirely due to the fact that I have gained 5lbs since I measured myself and placed my order. However, it still feels fine, and it looks great.
This puppy has more brass and leather attached to it than a Hells Angel convoy. It reeks of testosterone! I feel invincible when I am wearing it.
I made a quick test run to the wine store to test reactions (Mine as well as those that I met on the way). Nobody said boo. As far as I know, they thought it was perfectly natural that I was thus attired. But I was particularly interested in my own reaction. I felt completely confident. Even more confident that when I wear a tartan tank!! My beloved thinks it looks better than any of my other kilts. “Very Elegant” were her exact words.
This kilt will fit in equally well at a pub, or a black tie dinner.
I’m delighted with this kilt so far. I feel even a bit high. Maybe that’s because it is Roberts Hemp model in black with the brass fittings.
It has two commodious pockets. The outer pockets are too loose for my mini-mag flashlight, and too snug for my cell phone. Maybe you need to specify what you want to carry if that’s important to you. The inner pockets will hold a wallet, a paperback novel, and a mickey of brandy. And the leather beer bottle strap works a hoot.
I also received Roberts “Ranger Belt” in black leather, which is the perfect compliment to a great kilt. Both the kilt and the belt look as though they will stand up to years of wear.
I will be able to give you a more in-depth report after the weekend. The only clothing items I’ll be packing will be a change of shirt and some socks. No pants or shorts.
Thanks Robert.
You are a terrific craftsman.
Cheers,
Rick

I'm not sure about the ethics of posting pictures. Might make you so jealous that you could do yourself some harm.
Or maybe you would have to order a kilt from Robert!
Cheers mate

Well, the weekend is past us, so I thought I would do part two of the R-Kilt review.
A traffic jam on the QEW forced us to detour along the Lakeshore Rd. through Dalhousie (Where there is a pub called the Kilt and Clover - good kilt night venue). When we got almost into Niagara-on-the-Lake, we stopped and had lunch at the Red Rooster restaurant. That is where a late twenties something guy noticed my kilt and did a double take and commented on how awesome he thought it was. He asked about the maker, and prices, so I gave him Roberts web site information. Four more people received the same information over the course of the weekend after they asked me about the kilt. I have never had this kind of response when wearing my other kilts.
Being a little bit heavier than my other kilts, this 10oz. Hemp kilt takes a bit of getting used to.. particularly the leather key ring holder, and D ring belt loops which tended to poke my ribs when sitting, but only when I slouch. I think they will soften up over time.
I wore the kilt walking around the town all afternoon, went to the theater to see a live play, and had dinner at the Prince of Wales hotel. The kilt was at home in every venue. I never felt under dressed or over dressed. After a while, you just forget about it and enjoy the freedom and comfort. I noticed a lot of folks taking a serupticious look, but I didn't see any disapproval. Only acceptance.
While I prefer a lighter weight kilt for around the house, this R-Kilt is now bay far my favorite "Out-and-About" kilt.
For a Made-to-Measure garment, these kilts are a very good value. You can't even buy a decent off the rack blazer for this price.
Thanks again Robert
Cheers,
Rick

Great to read the review. I'm still salivating at the thought of one of his in leather.
