Golfing today/ comments
Went to play golf today wore my SK Blackwatch and a polo shirt have to have a collared shirt on to play the course on base. While waiting for the starter to tell us where to go a guy came up to me and said "hey nice skirt" I just said thanks it's a kilt but thanks. I guess he didn't like me being nice about it and again a little louder "I said nice skirt" again I said thanks and asked him sicnce he was playing a game that started in Scotland shouldn't know what a kilt was, he just stared at me for a second blank look on his face and wlked away, it was funny.
I guess he was trying to be funny for the crowd but when I didn't respond and niether did they he just looked dumb.
This was my first time having anybody say anything to me about wearing a kilt in 3 years of wearing them.

Amazing fellow - ignorant, rude, and absolutely untouched by the history and tradition of the game he plays...
By the way, how did you score?
Keep your head down and follow through.

When played golf last I wore my SWK Mcleod and received not one comment or even an odd glance. Which was too bad because I was playing golf in a little town called "Scots Valley" so I was so prepared with clever comebacks.
Cheers

Good for you being the bigger man, the stupid can be taught, however, with the ignorant there is little to be done.

Your response was that of a gentleman. I've received some ribbing about my "skirt," but since they've all been from family and friends, I've been able to let them slide.

Like you said, he was probably trying to get a rise out of you to build himself up. You deftly sidestepped his attempt by applying intelligence and class.

Or as has been said, never wrestle with a pig. The pig enjoys it and you get dirty.
A well handled situation, hope I will do as well. These sort of things always catch me off guard.

You handled the situation well.
If, as you expect, this bloke is in the army then I am quite surprised at his level of ignorance, given the military associations with the kilt.
Here in Australia we still have regiments that are kilted (for ceremonial and mess occasions) and pipe bands play a large part in our military and police functions. Maybe the situation is different in the US.
Anyway, once again, well handled!
Regards,
Troy
