Job hunting
I am saddened by the news that my employer is going out of business. We have been open for 5 years and I loved what I do. I have until Sept 1st to land a new job. The problem is I don't know what I want to do yet. Nothing in the want ads has sparked my interest yet. It is really bad timing as my second child is due in 4 weeks and we are a dual income family. I will always do what I have to do to keep food on the table, roof over our head, and clothes on our back, but it would be nice to find something I want to do too. Well thanks for letting me share. You all are a great bunch.
The main thing is will my next company let me work kilted? I don't think I will ask during the interview !

I guess you have to ask the question: would I rather have a job or wait for a kilted opportunity?

Depending what you do, or what you would like to do, have you thought about having the job come to you? How about starting your own business in doing what you do best. Maybe you could work for those businesses that hire you out for different jobs and you may find one you like that way.
Keep us informed.

What do I do? That is a good question. No really, I am a manager of a retail woodworking supply store (Woodcraft). I have been doing that almost 10 years. I have been in retail/restaurant management for a long time. I am very customer service minded. The other side of me really enjoys working with my hands. The one thing I am not is a IT/computer person. I know just enough about these darn machines to be dangerous! My wife and I are not interested in relocating. Thank you everyone for your offers of help and encouragement. I will take all of that I can get. Feel free to PM me any job offers or help.

I took a look at your website. IMHO you have a great talent that you should consider commercializing. There is a market out there for custom and one of a kind furniture and other wood articles. I know of a store in Seattle that sells nothing but handcrafted wood items, and I am sure there are others around the country.

Brian, Thanks for the kind words. I have thought many times about making a go of woodworking full time, But I know most of custom woodworkers in the area and I see how they are doing. I would love to keep it as a side job thing and for retirement, but not as my fulltime gig.
