A fortnight ago (as I mentioned on a previous post), myself and a couple of visiting friends from Wales - husband and wife - , on an unusually dry day, and all kilted, invaded a park at Ilfracombe 10 miles away, and enjoyed sailing one of my model powerboats on the boating pond.
Yesterday (in shorts, as I was hoping to have a dip in the sea), I happened to go in a newsagents at Combe Martin, five miles along the coast from Ilfracombe, took a magazine to the counter to pay, and the woman said: 'You were at the park with the boat the other day'. I said 'Yes, I remember you said you were impressed with it'. She replied 'That's right, there were three of you in kilts...'
I'd forgotten all about the outing, so it just goes to show that the kilt is always a good impression maker.
