    My grandfather's brother

My cousin has been going through old family pictures and sent me this today (he just bought a new scanner). It is my dad's dad's brother. This is really interesting to me because my grandfather never had anything to do with his family in Scotland after he moved to Canada just before the First World War. He was one of 11 or 12 siblings.
I will be trying to get some more information on this picture from my cousin, but I thought it worthwhile to post. I would appreciate any comments on the uniform, etc.

Excellent pic - I love these old photos of ancestors.
Finding you had a kilted ancestor is certainly a bonus.

Excellent picture I love old shots like this one, I am unsure about the uniform, however I am sure someone will recognize it. It does sort of look like a Gordon Highlanders uniform, but I really do not know enough to say that that is definitely it.

We're looking at early in the war, probably 1914. I'll have time to look later. Might be Gordon, but I'm leaning to MacKenzie.

A fine-looking fellow, David, and I can see the family resemblance. I cannot help with the uniform either, but I am leaning towards the tartan being Gordon.

I am very envious of those who have photos of earlier generations within their families. I don't even have any photos of my parents, other than those I took myself!

I was trying to check out the cap badge which, when blown up, looks like the Camerons Saltire more than a staghead. Came across this page, Camerons, thought you might like it.

Similar but not quite right. It's closer to Highland Light Infantry.

Is this a postcard photo or an actual photograph? The postcard photos had all identifying division markers removed by censors.

    Beautiful! What a treasure.

You could probably replicate it with the War I jacket and kilts from What Price Glory.
