Edinburgh kiltmaker burns down
With the festival just getting into full swing the long-established Highlandwear shop, Romanes and Paterson on Princes Street has been burned down. It is bound to be a big loss for Princes Street especially from a tourist viewpoint. This is the story - http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/in...?id=1213832007

That's a damn shame.
I've a few friends who got kilts from there and they were wonderful quality.

Ouch! That's really a shame. I was just in that store in June and they had some very nice wares. I hate to think what the owners are now going to have to go through.

Sad news, though latest reports say some of the stock is safe
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/...st/6929056.stm
Some of the stock, which was kept on the first three floors of the premises and was therefore unaffected, was removed or covered by firefighters after a request from the staff.

Sad news, it's good that they saved some of the stock, but sad news nonetheless.

Sad for sure!
Saving some stock brings back memories...in similar efforts to save cloth and garments from the store they are still smoke damaged, but not destroyed in the fire, so the insurance coverage is less or not there...leaving smoke damaged garment and material to work with.
Hope that's not the case here.
And, hope not too many folks were put out of work - often the most devestating part of a business fire.

Anyone chartering a plane for us to go over there for the fire sale?

Our tour guide in Edinburgh told us of that when we started out on a City tour Friday morning. Traffic was diverted off the High Street (The Royal Mile) and it was almost impossible to move on the adjacent streets. We finally abandoned the planned route and went round the outskirts of the town. We didn't get to see that store before the fire unfortunately. Always a tragedy when a kilt is lost!
