Unusual situations to be wearing a kilt...

Me trying out a shower/bath/jaccuzzi at the Royal Welsh Show, no water was involved!

    And standing up!

And a close up taken of my new McPherson Red whilst watching geese being herded by a sheepdog at Hay on Wye. The sgean kiltpin was purchased in Gatehouse of Fleet on my recent trip to Dumfries.

Wow, that bath looks amazing... but I bet it would be a pain to clean!

Ah, well, another reason to hire a maid, I suppose!

Trefor, no matter what the Sales people told me about there being no water connected to a display like that, I would not risk my finery by getting inside it - not for love nor money!**

I do like your McPherson Red - it is a beautiful tartan, of that there is no doubt.

**By the way, I have just confirmed an order on a new bathroom and loo - and have depressed myself by the realisation that, for the same price, I could have ordered about 36 new kilts!!!!!!

Might have shrunk your kilt if the water had been on. Don't know if you would suit a mini-kilt. I do like the MacPherson red.

I have to say that I really like the hose & vest with your kilt -- looks sharp! (I'd have left the belt at home, though. Much cleaner look to not have it pokiing out from under the vest. "Cleaner" - ha! No pun intended, shower notwithstanding!).

All baths and showers are pains to clean so hopefully a combined one is less so!

Well I wouldn't usually sport a belt with a waistcoat but I was wishing to emphasise the Welshness of the cilt with as many dragons as possible!

And Hamish, it was much drier in the shower than it was outside! Oh, I bought one by the way! They are throwing in a sink and loo as well! I wonder what average kilt price you used to come up with the fact that you had denied yourself 36 new kilts! I guess I have denied myself 9 or 10!

Just seen guys in kilts on BBC's Cash In The Attic too!

It's the fast drying that shrinks the wool kilt. They can be soaked right through and dry just fine naturally. Of course, you'll have to stay outside until it does unless you're with people who don't mind wet sheep smell.

Tell us a bit about the sgian dubh kilt pin?

Sir, only a gentleman as dapper and classy as our Trefor could possibly pull that look off!

Well, I like to have a kilt pin on each kilt and I like them all to be individual and different. On the Tuesday I was wending my way to what I thought was Stranraer, but eventually became all the way to the Mull of Galloway. As a Historic Scotland member (which then gives you admission to all of their properties at no extra charge) I had just visited Cardonnes Castle and seen an intriguiing sign which proclaimed "Kilt making exhibition." Following this sign brough me into the charming little town of Gatehouse of Fleet where you walk through a post office into a cafe (where I partook of lunch) behind which is the giftshop and indeed an exhibition of a lady making kilts, next to which was a delightful collection of kilt pins. Not having any kilt pins left in reserve I thought about acquiring a couple extra ready for future kilts and saw the sgian pin (and another yet to be applied to a future kilt) as worthy of purchase. Of course it's a sgian without the sheath but it's a good way of demonstrating what one looks like! The lady making kilts turned out to be the guardian of this collection of very reasonably priced pins (made by the Sgian Dubh Co and all priced between £15-£20) so I could not resist. Of course I hadn't expected to find a kilt in Andersons off the peg that would fit but having found the McPherson Red it just seemed that this was the perfect pin to "marry" to that kilt. There will be travelogue pictures shortly showing this location!

Oh Grant, these are phrases usually attached to Panache and Hamish! But I modestly thank you for the accolade!
