Slippage of the belt...
Alrighty folks...
I went to our first chapel service (and coincidentally all of my classes) kilted yesterday, and then out with my fiancee' again tonight. Everything was fine, few negative reactions, but I did have one problem:
MY BELT KEEPS MOVING!!
Now, granted, I don't have belt-loops on either kilt. (They are soon to arrive on the x-kilt though!) Is this the reason the belt keeps slipping? I tighten it 'round my belly-button so that I feel some pressure, but not so it wrinkles the apron badly. Should I crank it down more? Or is there something else I am missing?
Thanks in advance.

I would suggest you try one more notch. If that doesn't work, you may want to consider glueing a few pieces of felt to the inside of the belt. They should give enough friction to hold the belt in place but not damage the kilt.

How large of a belt are you wearing? What material is the belt?
I have a smaller leather belt that I notice will wander when I'm wearing some *gasp* pants.
The larger leather belts don't seem to have that problem.

If you are wearing a Traditional Style Kilt the belt should not be around your naval. It should be at your natural waist which is above the naval.
To find your natural waist try these hints.
Take a 1 1/4" or wider belt and fasten it just under your ribs and just above your "love handles at the sides. Then bend side to side. The belt will want to settle into the narrowest part of your natural waist. This is where your belt wants to settle naturally and this is where it will not move around.
Now put your kilt on and cinch the top straps into the same natural waist hollow. Then put your belt on covering the straps. Even fastened loose the belt will stay put all day.

I wear the kilt because: Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

I've also noticed that just like having to retighten the cinch on a horse's saddle I have to retighten my belt a notch after I first put it on.
So, when I do wear a belt with a kilt I cinch it up, wait a few minutes, and retighten it.

Do as the Wizard says. A bit higher than the navel should take care of it.

One possible solution for a slipping belt (on an inexpensive kilt, mind you) is to add small patches of the hook portion of stick-on velcro to the inside of the belt. It will keep the kilt from slipping out from under the belt. The downside is that it will also eventually tear up the fabric of the kilt where it hooks on, which is why I'd only use it on a cheaper kilt.

I had a look at your past pictures. Does your kilt have buckles? The belt goes over the buckles and they keep each other in place. Typically, it's the left buckle that holds everything up and the other buckles and belt are relative to that.
It looks like you should be wearing that kilt a bit higher, that will get you to the area it's designed for. It also looks like the belt is thin, so it's looking to settle somewhere other than where you left it.

Have any of you noticed whether or not your belt buckle effects slippage? I just switced over to a larger, rectangular buckle, more "traditional" in shape, and I've found that it helps keep my belt in place, in pants or a kilt, better than my old buckle did.

I have noticed that my belt only slips if I am sitting for a while. It usually just rides up in the back. Just takes a quick adjustment when I stand up and everything is back where it should be.
