People notice the derndest things.
Without going into too much detail, I was feeling a little 'confined' by yesterday afternoon and decided to change from trousers to a kilt for going out to my bible study. Since it's cool in Sydney at this time of year, my only choice was my PV NeoKilt. I left on my coloured business shirt and wool jumper, but changed the socks for some long football socks (don't have any proper kilt hose - a lack I want to remedy as I understand they're much thicker). I also bowed to comfort and donned a pair of ... sheepskin ugh boots. (Hey! My feet were cold!) Oh and the kilt is not a tartan, it's snow camo.
My friends had seen me wearing that one before, so they would recognise it as a kilt. But one guy was wanting to know where my 'dirk' (just how do you pronounce sgian dubh, or however you spell it? ) was and maintained I wasn't properly regimental without it! I actually said he wouldn't know if I was Regimental or not, referring to The Question, but that went over his head. No comments about my unorthodox footwear, note.
Then when his wife added something about a proper scottish kilt, I felt I had to point out to them that I'd been reminded that I know a heck of a lot more about kilts than they realize. Ah well. At least I can get away with that and there were no hard feelings. And it did forestall them making fools of themselves, which was my intention. But obsessing over the sgian dubh?
Wade.
