On colors and such
I was wearing this ensemble this weekend for a few social affairs i had to attend on Sunday.
As I look at the photo it appears i put a bit too much blue together.
the kilt is A black watch, the sun washes out some color and makes it appear a bit purple but it is blue. As is the shirt and hose.
any advise on if i should change the hose color or shirt color.
I like the look but it might look a bit costumish with the same color hose shirt etc...

I think that you are always right to have the shirt and hose match, and if that colour is in the kilt than so much the better, the outfit here is spot on, I would not change a thing. I find that co-ordinating an outfit this way helps to pull it all together.

Colorwise the ensemble seems good I would be pleased to wear those colors myself.
The one thing that strikes me as not quite in alignment is the formal chain belt with the more informal sporran and the formal belt with the more informal shoes.
Were I you I would either wear dressier shoes and perhaps change to a slightly more formal sporran (but not a dress sporran). Or I would change the chain belt for a simpler plain leather sporran strap.
Cheers

Jamie
I have kept the chain simply as a result of not getting around to building another leather strap to wear with a casulal Sporran. And i have read of the not so few members who would never wear a chain as part of a casual outfit.
I have an optional less formal looking belt which I could wear.
Excellent points. This has provided motivation to cut a new strap and dye it up.
Thanks

Exactly!
Looks good!
Sure, as you get more items in your kilted closet, you can mix and match. Dressy with dressy, casual with casual, and formal with formal.
The colors look good!

Looks great to me, just as it is. If anything, I'd go with a leather sporran strap as it doesn't wear on the kilt as much, but the colors look fine.

Colours fine, change the sporran chain for a leather strap,if you can,and get out there!Lets face it,it is doubtful if anyone would be rude enough to comment,at a function anyway----even if they knew what they were talking about, which as we all know, mostly they dont!

Hi Richland,
I agree with the others who say that your choice of colours is fine - they are, although dark colours do tend to be more formal than lighter ones. As I have made clear many times, Black Watch is not a tartan I would wear myself but, were I in your shoes, I might try a beige shirt and beige hose for a more informal look. Brown sporran, belt and shoes are also considered to be casual or informal, but you could not wear them with the Black Watch, which cries out for black accessories.
I also agree that you should replace the sporran chain with a leather sporran strap, for the reasons already given. Your belt is a Dress Belt and is not 'right' for a casual outfit - a belt of similar width but with a pronged buckle would look so much better. The flat, waist plate 'buckle' is often worn casually nowadays, but it really is too formal in my 'umble opinion.
