Looking after fur sporrans in the rainy seasons

Every Autumn I start to worry about how my sporrans will hold up during the vast amount pf rain we get in Glasgow.
In the last few years I've found one thing that keeps both fur and leather sporrans in good condition no matter how rainy it gets.
    Coconut oil.

It usually comes in blocks. Just take a small amount, rub it in your hands until melts down and then rub it into the leather and fur of your sporran.

Right afterwards your sporran will look rich and shiny like this

Just do this every fortnight or so, and it'll keep your sporran in great shape all season.

And the best thing is that for a block of coconut oil you'll pay about 8 dollars and it will last you all season.

Thanks for the great advice, I'm sure this will help a lot of members out there. Unfortunately this advice doesn't really apply to me since i live in Arizona and rain is as foreign as a kilt in the cartwheel contest.

I've had good results with "Scotchguard". Just spray a heap on & water beads & runs right off. Also protects against staining (like those drink accidents on Burn's nights!). Sounds like it belongs on a sporran too

Brand doesn't matter as long as it is pure coconut oil.
You can get it in tubs on ebay USA for less than $10
    Here

It will last forever. Just a very small amount about the size of a penny will do a whole sporran. Rub it in your palms and it melts right down.

You can buy it at any health food store. It's great for cooking with, too. I use it for eggs, and potato/onion saute, and a lot of other things. I'll have to try it with sporran.

I use it for cooking occasionally but mostly I make my own soap with it. Never thought to use it as waterproofing though.

If your sporron is made from natural products, ie leather, seal skin or other animal furs, they look after themselves.
