A raucous and solemn kilted weekend

Saturday in Corona, CA we celebrated Halfway to St. Paddy's with my friend Eamonn and the Ravens (I call 'em Almond and the Raisins but that's just me ) and Ken O'Malley alternating sets at Francie's - sort of an Irish roadhouse biker bar. The Owner of Francies's Woody wore his County Cork tartan kilt, his lovely GF wore a MacKenzie (sorry, left the camer at home ), another chao had an Olive UK and I the XMTS from FK (sans sporran).
Mr. O'Malley during an exchange about wether he'd play a song I requested said: "You don't have any pockets in that skirt lad " to which I replied, reaching into those cool slash pockets Steve installed and pulling out a fistful of dollars : "Bet me ?" He looked quite astonished for a second and ended the night with an a cappella version of "Skibbereen" which was awesome.
Ken's cool like that.
The second half of the weekend was a Memorial Service for a great man recently departed, Al "Smokey" Stover. I met him when he was the drummer for Paddy Doyle's Boots and he later played with The Ravens mentioned abov and his past works are too numerous to list, seems he knew everybody and everybody knew him. No church or hall was large enough for such a gathering, no. It was held in a hangar at Cable Airport in Upland which provided a nice sunset view, plenty of space, and words alone cannot explain how it just felt right to send him off that way. I know he would have loved every second of it as we all did ( tears and chilly temps notwithstanding).
Another friend Andrew wore his pinstriped kilt he bought at a shop on the Royal Mile and I again sported the casual (no-sporran) XMTS.
If I've got the picture-posting thing figured out that's my new Diamond pattern socks from Sock Dreams, those are nice, not itchy like wool and they stayed put. The aforementioned Dress Model Freedom kilt, and my embroidered Cameron Clan Crest shirt from Matt and the Scottish Tartans Museum. The shirt and socks aren't an exact match but nobody pointed it out and they liked the shirt, the Redhead is still threatening to steal the socks.
CT - and I have "stuff" on order so it's a great day for a monday.
