    Kilt sighting

For the past 10 months I've been talking to a student at my work place about wearing the kilt. Six months back he shows up in a home made kilt. I gave him some information on Stillwater since I know he's short on funds. He now wears a SWK nightstalker once every 10 days or so. He tells me that he's been talking to his friends about wearing kilts.

Yesterday I left my building as usual heading for the parking lot. I'm walking along lost in thought when I happen to look up at someone who just passed me from behind. This college kid was wearing a wool kilt in a tartan I didn't recognize. (navy blue with a lot of red) This is a very conservative university and I noticed that he was getting a few glances but nothing major. I don't know if there is a connection. I'll have to do some asking. Even in a conservative bastion like Texas A&M, the kilt is slowly being accepted as an alternative to shorts/pants.

In my single USMC days, while stationed in Okinawa, to pass the time, I taught English at a local college. They had an exchange student from Texas A&M. He had several of these. It is like a cap badge in size, and has two pins on the back. I seem to remember that I traded a Marine Corps emblem for it.

I wear it on my Wallace tartan now (no real reason) I just thought it looked good on the Wallace red?

Looks pretty good on the Leatherneck tartan as well.

So, Aggie, what are you wearing on campus these days?

OK, I thought I looked like some of the corps insignia here but I didn't think it was sold to the general public. I think you would have to have been in the ROTC program to get one. It would make a nice kilt pin.

    Jim,
I don't wear them during the Texas summer but when the high temp drops to 82 degrees I have my family tartan which Matt Newsome designed for me, a german national which Matt made for me, an X-Marks, Mississippi district and a Thomas of Wales family tartan. All tanks except for Matt's.

    alternative to shorts/pants

hope you guys dont get pissed at this but i wear both shorts and kilt. not that the kilt is something for "i ran out of shorts" or anything but i think giving the kilt a break does some good to it, i dont mean stop wearing it but if i had more than one kilt hellyeah! i'll wear em everyday!

I don't wear my kilt anything like everyday, for no other reason than I don't have enough kilts to wear them every day.
