It's based on an original (far right):

Sheesh, if ANYONE is about to spend $190 on a knife like THAT.........
Please get a hold of me first, as I have a whole box full of knives like that in various stages of completion......I enjoy trading stuff I make with other makers of stuff

I actually GAVE my friend a little sgian dubh type knife similar to that just because I like him :-)

Actually, that price seems pretty standard these days for a good hand forged knife from a well respected smith.

As a person that has had my own shop and built authenic museum quality muzzle loaders along with other 18th century accouterments full time, I can tell you that there are a lot of hours invovled in any hand made item, be it a rifle, knife, sporran or kilt.

To build something in your spare time for fun is different from doing it full time to pay the bills and feed your family.

Old Dominion Forge is a full time one man shop producing Museum quality reproductions of 18th century blades. The skill required to do this comes from years of research ,study and hours of practice. It deserves a decent wage.
That $190.00 knife probably took close to 3 or 4 days to produce plus the cost of materials. What do consider a fair wage for 30+ hours of your time?

People that preserve the old crafts don't get rich at it.

I'm an 18th century guy born into the 20th century and have been dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

That's less than I'd sell it for, lets put it that way.
