Brown Belt – Buckle Color?
Opinions wanted:
On a brown kilt belt do you prefer a silver colored/pewter buckle or a gold colored/brass buckle?
Is either more traditional?
Thanks.

Hi Larry,
Generally, I wear a brass buckle on my brown belts - I just think it looks better. However, since most of my belts and buckles are interchangeable, I have been known to go with a chrome one on very dark brown belts. Another consideration is whether or not you want to match the buckle colour with metal on your sporran or, indeed, your kilt pin.
To my mind, mixing the metals is just as much a sin as mixing black and brown leather!!!

I agree with Hamish. For browns I prefer brass. I am eventually getting an entire set of oxblood leathers, sporran, braided sporran belt and ranger belt (all from RKilts) to wear with my reddish and greenish based kilts. To the point of changing the kilt straps wuth oxblood and brass buckles. For a blue toned klt I personally stick with black leather and chrome hardware.

I agree about the brass buckle on a brown belt. However If everything else you have is silver an antique silver buckle can work. Shiny silver or worse, chrome should not be done with a brown belt. Actually I'll pass on chrome altogether...except on car bumpers.

Brass is the right answer - unless one could find a copper colored buckle. Now that would look smart on a
brown belt.

Another vote for Brass, it just flows better so to speak.

I would vote for brass with a brown belt. However, I got a nice brass buckle with a silver thistle pattern. I'm matching that with a new dark brown belt from cavscout that arrived this week. Will post some pics this weekend.

I'll toss in my vote for brass as well. I think it's just more asthetically pleasing. I had Cavscout affix my brown belt with a brass roller buckle as well as using brass hardware for my matching brown leather sporran strap. However, I'm also with pdcorlis, copper hardware would be SMASHING! Never thought of that actually, but I am now!

Ooh, a treasure hunt for copper buckles!
Funny, I have two great-looking copper buckles but they are too small to fit a kilt belt.
Brass would have to be worn with an all leather sporran belt. Or black chain.
I don’t think that I’ve seen any with brass chain.
Where might I find a (modestly priced) brass buckle for a 2” belt?

I think McMurdo bought one of these buckles at a local Tandy store.
