    Orange County Celtic Festival

This is the second time they are holding the festival, and last year's was a blast. Unfortunately it will be in a different venue than last year so hopefully that works out well, but this was one of the more fun festivals I went to last year.

It's a one day event, and while it has all the trappings of the normal Highland Games/Scottish Festival it's primarily a music, dancing, and entertainment event. There are vendors, and there are clan tents, there will be massed bands and pipe regiments. The main focus will be on performers however, be they singers, dancers, or groups.

It was also one of the best Athletic Events last year, where were performed the infamous "Charge of the Caber". At the conclusion of the day's events we had a sort of impromptu challenge with the operators of a tennis ball trebuchet.

They launched dozens of tennis balls at us, and we had a caber picked and charged into the oncoming fusilade of balls, trying to hit one with the caber we were desperately balancing before attempting the turn. It was a test of balance and skill with the run as much as actually turning it. It had a great medieval feel to be charging a trebuchet under fire with a giant log as well.

The Fest is Sunday, Dec 2nd at Soka University in Aliso Viejo.

    Check it out. http://www.occelticfestival.com/

Awesome! Come on over to the athletic field and check it out. I'll be competing AND taking my judges test at the same time so I won't have much time to spare, but stop over and say hi.

Just a reminder, the festival is this weekend on Sunday.

I think I'll be in my nightwatch Camo UK, come on up and say hi.

Don't let our little bit of rain today put you off, the weekend should be clear, if a little cool.

    Excellent, see you there.

For the record, the weather there on Sunday is supposed to be Sunny, with a high of 64. Maybe sweater or light jacket weather for native Californians, but perfect T-shirt weather for most of us.

    From Interstate 5:

    1. Go to Oso Parkway exit and turn west (right if you are coming south, left if you are coming north)
    2. Oso becomes Pacific Park Drive
    3. Travel about five miles on Pacific Park Drive - turn left on Wood Canyon Drive
    4. After one mile, turn right on University

From the South on Interstate 5 via Toll Road (SR73):

    1. From Interstate 5, take the northbound State Route 73 toll road.
    2. Travel on the 73 to Aliso Creek - turn left on Aliso Creek, right on Pacific Park, left on Wood Canyon Drive
    3. After one mile, turn right on University

Note: State Route 73 is a toll road costing up to $4.25 to use. For a toll-free route take Interstate 5 to Oso Parkway, turn west and follow directions above.
