Day Sporan After 6:00 PM
I had read somewhere that a day sporan should not be worn after 6:00 PM. Is this still considered the norm? I'm on a tight budget for my first kilt and I'm looking at the USA Kilts Casual package.
Would a day sporan be permissible to wear to casual evening events?
Thanks,
Kent

Sure - You really only need an evening sporran if you are in evening attire!
Most fancy dress sporrans would look pretty lame when worn with a kilt and t-shirt.

I would wear any of the first 3 here http://www.usakilts.com/sporran_day.php as semi-formal at any time of day. I'm not big on a lot of flashy nickel.
When I step up to formal though, I'd pull out the sporran with a little more "bling" http://www.usakilts.com/sporran_dress.php
but as is often said, there are no hard and fast rules, so whatever you think looks good. After all, odds are, no one else in the room is going to have a clue about highland wear.

First of all, practically no one you'll be mingling with even knows what a semi-dress or formal sporran is, let alone care that you're not wearing one.
I personally don't own a "formal" sporran. I just don't like fur. I have two plain day sporrans (brown and black) and a black semi-formal with a silver cantle, which I wear when I'm dressed to the nines. However, unless it's a somewhat formal occasion, I'll wear my day sporrans with an Argyll jacket (black with the black Argyll, and black or brown with the charcoal jacket, depending on what shoes I'm wearing). I think this looks just fine, and like I said there aren't too many kilt police around to tell me I'm doing it "wrong." Besides, most kilt police like to go undercover and wear trousers, so who are they to tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Andrew.

I don't know who came up with this idea but it certainly is one of those silly that are just crying out to be broken.
Common sense dictates what one wears with what rather than the time of the day.

We should be more worried about people wearing Prince Charlies to Highland Games! Don't they understand that it's a tuxedo?!?

I guess they figure that they only get to wear it once or twice a year so the Highland Games are a chance to give it a good airing.
Not that I agree with that, though...save it for the gala opening nights at the opera, eh?

A day wear sporran is fine after 6:00, if at some point you need another sporran you can always pick it up at a later date, and for now the day wear will work.
