Nor Cal Summer Games; please read, rabble!

Gene McCracken (Clan MacNaughton) has asked me if the rabble would like to rent a tent space next door to the MacNaughtons for Woodland.

See, the thing is that while they like having us around and they enjoy being sort of honorary X-Markers, a dozen X-Markers DOES make the tent a bit tight when other MacNaughtons show up. So they have a proposal for us for Woodland, and I'd like to suggest to all of us that we consider this for Woodland, Dunsmuir (?), Campbell, and Pleasanton as well.

(No MacNaughton tent at Livermore and Casey/Alan do the tent at Ben Lomond)

Gene says that if we'll pay for a tent space and a tent, then they will reserve TWO spaces under the name of Clan MacNaughton. We have to bring a fold up tent and some furniture, but it will be a space for X-Markers and also "extra" MacNaughton clan members to hang out.
We can't have an X-Marks tent, no Games will recognize us as a Clan and besides Hank et. al. has nixxed the idea. But we can continue to tag along with Clan MacNaughton if we buy a space.

Personally, I'm all for it, and will happily chip in for the space.

If it's $30 for a 10 x 10 space at each of the Games, and we do this at Woodland, Dunsmuir, Campbell and Pleasanton, that would be $120 for the season. I will chip in $30 to the "season tent fund" and will bring two chairs (though I won't be at Dunsmuir).

way2fractious, can we use your tent, or should we splurge for a tent upgrade?
As a gathering place at Livermore, last year we used way2fractious's tent, which worked well. Now way2fractious's tent is a $20 Home Depot special and that polythene cover may not last long, but then maybe instead of buying another tent one of us sewing whizzes can just make a new cover when the cheapo one fails.

    Thoughts?

    Great Idea.

Basically this is an Annex to the Clan MacNaughton tent for their friends at XMTS (so they don't occupy all their tent space).

The F-H.C.A.G. and I are in.

    Cheers

You mean we have to move from being anarchic, roving, pillaging, (mooching) barbarians to semi-organized and semi-cultured? (And we thought moderation was onerous!)

O.K., if the MacNaughtons are sub-letting, I'm in on the rent for one of the games.

The OSH $20 cheapo tent would be an embarrassment amongst the clan tents. My vote would be to upgrade (to prevent a decline in property values for our neighbors ) From all the money I "save" making my own kilts, I will acquire one.

    Storage space? I have plenty.

Conveyance to Nor-Cal games? Non-clan vehicles do not have drop-off privileges, but a "war wagon" gets me and the "stuff" into whatever games I attend.

Alan, I'd direct you to the Artist Supply Warehouse website and suggest that you all might find one of these set ups functional:

    http://www.aswexpress.com/discount-a...art-supplies/4

    http://www.aswexpress.com/discount-a...art-supplies/5

Not that buying them from ASW would be economical because the shipping might be too $$$, but these jobs have a whole set of accessories that make them work. It seems to me that most of the pop up canopies of this type that you can find almost anywhere are that 10X10 dimension so a canopy itself might be cheaper at a home improvement store but all of the canopies that I've ever seen at a home improvement had plastic tarp material and not the polyester that the "art fair" ones have...also you can get the matching walls with these. A lot of the major chain art supply stores handle these locally or - better still - don't any of you have an artist friend who does the art fair circuit and who could lend one of these set-ups to you?

Just a thought in case it's worth the investment. I've gone through several inexpensive canopies and it's worth it just to cut to the chase and get one that's worth it.

It just occurred to me that Sportsman's Guide might be a resource as well:
