French Cape in Lieu of an Inverness??
The Sportsmans Guide folks are offering a FIVE pound wool NEW French Military WOOL cape. $60.

I know its not an Inverness Cape...but its a wool cape...ahhh the temptation.

Any thoughts on why this would be wise or stupid purchase for wearing with a kilt are appreciated....I be tempted....

Ron, I ordered one already. I think it is on backorder so no review for a while. But it looks good!

Oooohhhh! I want! I just hope they aren't gone by payday.
Oh, and to answer your original question, I think it would be a wonderful addition to the wardrobe.

Thanks Moosedog,
You're right. Called and they're on backorder until March 17th...if that's somehow accurate.
At least it gives me time to ponder. They said the XL size is for chest measurement of 46-48" Though I think that's what they always say. I've had XL that were well fitting on me from them, and some that were rather snug. Guess in the world of surplus from so many nations its a crap shoot.

I ordered one also. They're expected to be available on St. Patrick's Day. How's that for an omen?
I used to wear an English Bobbie's cape with my habit. It was VERY heavy and warm. I can only hope that this might be as useful.

It'll look even better with black knotted leather buttons...

I watched I know Where I'm Going last night and was struck by how odd it looked to wear a long cape over the kilt--per the discussion earlier on not looking like a flasher. This cape looks short enough to avoid that problem. I had planned to make one but for the price thought Id try this one out.

Just called Sportsman's Guide to see if the French Military Wool Capes were in yet. They're not. And now they're backordered even longer until March 31st.
May be one of those optimistic efforts by Sportsman's that won't actually happen. Or will happen just in time for Graham's winter down under....
