    Bonspeil

This Feb. I'm going to Quebec for the annual Masonic Curling Tournament. This will be my fourth year and I never considered going kilted before. The organizer is a man by the name of Fraser so guess what I'll be wearing? I don't plan on curling in my kilt as my particular style of delivery usually involves a lot of "sitting" and I'll tell you what, Mr. Man that ice is some cold! (even in leg tubes!). This year our home lodge Rockingham #76, Candia, NH is actually fielding a team. We were told that we couldn't win because the trophy must stay in Bedford District. I assured the organizer that he had absolutely nothing to worry about!
None of the pics from previous years have any kilts in them so I'll have to get new ones this year

    Anyone else into curling?

I've curled twice and enjoyed it. When I retire from the Navy in 5 1/2 short more years I am going to Canada I'm sure I'll do it alot. My FIL is on a team. The only "sport" where the object is to throw stones at houses. Sports is in quotes because I belive that anything an 80 year old can beat me at is a game, not a sport. see also golf.

I love curling. unfortunately I don't get to do it as often as I would like. The rink near my place has been undergoing some renos the past year or so. Next year I will join a mixed league.

We have a Celtic bonspeil around St. Patrick's day that is apparently always a good time.

    Masonic Curling Tournament

I never heard of a Masonic Curling Tournament, so I went in search of more info on the net. When I googled "Masonic Curling Tournament" the only hit I got was this very thread.....

    More info please.

When our local ice rink was built back in 2001, there was talk of curling, but sadly it never materialized, more's the pity!

btw, have you seen Men with Brooms?

The District of Bedford, Grand Lodge of Quebec has an invitational district curling tournament each year in the town of Cowansville. This is part of what folks call The Eastern Townships; a predominantly Anglo part of Quebec with lots of Brits and Scots. The reason a tiny country lodge from NH is involved is because one of our members heard about it while he was working at Champlain as a customs officer and was invited. We have since made it an international incident! I won a cordless drill last year
Curling is fun although it is harder than it looks. it was descibed to me as the only sport that one can smoke cigarettes, drink beer, and eat bratwurst while playing (mayde horseshoes too?) I don't smoke or drink so I eat a lot of sausage. Actually these guys don't do any of that while they play, they're pretty serious about their game, but the pea soup for lunch is great.
I wish there were more opportunities to curl around here. The closest club is way down in Mass. and it's pretty pricey I made some stones out of concrete and slide them around the pond in my back yard but it just isn't the same.

Here's one of us getting ready to demonstrate the "sit and spin" technique.

Never tried curling, but I do recall as a kid living in north Seattle a curling rink near Bitter Lake. I'm sure its long gone.
It was the only curling rink south of the border in Washington state I was aware of.

curling is awesome fun and VERY popular here on the island. Just about every town has it's own curling rink. I haven't played in years, but curled all through high school. Even have a few trophys!

Is it just me or should the Scots not be allowed to invent sports anymore...
