Highland Dress and the Boy Scout uniform

I found an interesting article on the Clan MacLaren North America website about wearing Highland dress with the BSA uniform. When the time for my Eagle Scout Court of Honor comes around, I was thinking of doing it kilted, and so I found this article quite interesting.

However, with regards to headgear, I was thinking either a balmoral or glengarry bonnet, as suggested in the article.

However, I can't find any with proper coloration. I was thinking a green one with red trim. I'd replace the cockade with one in red and gold (as the article suggested), and I was thinking of getting a BSA emblem to pin on it.

So: does anyone know where I might be able to get a green bonnet (any style) with red trim? Or do I have to make it myself?

I would stick to the advice and wear the Scouting dress from the waist up - that's what is usual here if Scouts go kilted.

Technically, the second hat is a wedge or garrison cap.

Something to consider is that this article is directed more at those who have obtained their Wood Badge. You can afford to be a bit less regimented in your colors as there is no obligation to be "in-line" with the MacLaren traditions.

You can wear whatever kilt you want with the top half of the uniform and coordinate your bonnet with the kilt.

As far a a bonnet goes, Penny's of Thunder Bay has both style of bonnet and can provide them with varying colors of dicing. Here are the available colors
(or at least what was available about a year ago)

I've been considering a Glengarry with this pin in the cockade in lieu of a Clan Badge:

I know we're mostly talking about dressing up here, but I thought I would toss a little something in.

Our local (cub scout) pack didn't require the boys to wear uniform pants, instead they wanted the boys to wear jeans. So I wore my denim Utilikilt. I never did get a uniform shirt, because I decided not to be a leader.

I like all of the hats choices that have been that have been suggested in this thread so far.

I would second Phil's suggestion. Scouting honours you with the award of the Eagle Scout badge-- you honour Scouting by accepting it in your Scout uniform.

As a long time scouter and kilt wearer I would suggest you wear the Scout Pants for your Court of Honor. The Kilt is recognized as an optional part of the uniform in Scotland not in the United States. While I applaud your wish to wear a kilt with your uniform and for most occaisions I would say go for it. But a Eagle Court of Honor is a special occaision and not only is it an honor for the new eagle scout it is a time when younger scouts see an example of Scouting at its best. Remember uniforming is one of the methods of scouting.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Two things:

    1) I will, of course, get permission from the scoutmaster beforehand to wear the kilt with the uniform for my Eagle Court;

    2) There is still quite a bit of time till my court (we don't even have date set yet); this is more or less speculative at this point.
