2008 Tartan Ball
Last night I went to the RSCDS Tartan Ball at the Royal York, it was a wonderful evening full of wonderful music and dance. We are lucky in Toronto to have Bobby Brown and the Scottish Accent they are a wonderful band and really bring something special to any event
Here is the band during the intermission
There were a few familiar faces I'm sur you all remember Bill from my last set of pictures of my SCD class, as you can see he cleans up well.
Donna is in my class, she and her workmates were at the Maple Leaf hockey game where the Leafs won in overtime, Donna said she had to drag them to the ball, we have a bit of a pact now to be dancing in the ball next year, here is Donna and myself.
This gent was at the ball all the way from Calgary Alberta with his daughter, we had a good we chat. He was in the same business as I am, and I for one think his outfit is simply smashing. I can not remember his name as I am terrible with names however he was saying that while he enjoyed formal events such as the Tartan Ball, what he really enjoys is getting fou and unco happy at less formal events, and of course Scottish Country Dancing

Still more photos
I did get some video however it seems to be sideways as I flipped the camera, I will try to edit them so that you see them. It was a great night I am looking forward to next year, I was evewn able to meet muirkirkca but did not get a picture of us together. It was a wonderful evening the world of Scottish Country Dancing really is great. There were an estimated 300 dancers and it really was a treat to see so many people who are adept at Scottish Country Dancing. One thing that was nice was the amount of compliments my Argyll hose garnered.

Looks like everyone had a good time.
How much did tickets cost to this event?

For me it was free as I was there to watch it. But for the dancers the cost was about $100.00 or so I can not remember exactly, for the meal alone it was about $80.00

Looks wonderful to see so many kilts dancing around!
Capturing frozen movement in indoor lighting conditions where flash is ineffective can be a challenge indeed. One of those situations where a tripod can be a help to keep the camera steady for longer exposures.

Thanks for sharing the photos Glen. The venue looks most elegant and fitting for such well dressed group of ladies and gents (yourself certainly included).
It is very hard to get good pictures of Scottish Country Dancers (those darned people won't stay still! )
Glad to hear that next year you will down there with them!
Cheers
