I was Asked the Other Question
Saturday evening we went to a mystery dinner theater. No sooner than I had walked in to give my ticket and a lady came up to me and asked a question. She seemed very excited. Nope, not THE question, but another one. I had on a red shirt, my USA Kilts American Heritage kilt, off white hose and black shoes. I was just surprised and didn't think to ask her any questions in return. She wanted to know what tartan that was as she'd had never seen it before. I told her about American kilts, Utilikilts too, and what this tartan meant and who it was made by.
Later on, I saw where she was sitting and at intermission, went over and talked to her. I wanted to know why she was interested in kilts, if she was or had been to Scotland, etc. she had never been to Scotland, but either her son or a friend of her son's got married in a kilt, (I didn't catch that) and that is the only place she has seen them, at the wedding. But she just loved them and didn't seem surprised I had one on, just that she didn't know the tartan. I doubt if she even knew any other tartans. She just had a good way of opening up a conversation.
DALE.
You don't have to be Scottish to be comfortable!

Nice. I get a kick out of some people's curiousity sometimes. People will approach you and ask "Hey nice kilt, what tartan are ye wearing?" And most people I could probably tell them whatever I wanted and they wouldn't know the difference. It's cool that they are interested and comfortable enough to come and speak to me, but I get the feeling sometimes that they ask just to see if you're wearing the one and only tartan they have ever really heard of. Great story though, thanks for sharing!
