Kilt Walk Puget Sound
(Don) Don Moore, (Robert Lamb) Robert Lamb and (Oldhiker) myself have been kicking around ideas this winter about how to get a bunch of Kilties together and sponsor a charitable event at the same time. See what you think of this idea below, give us your comments and who would be interested in participating.
Enjoy the company of kilted brethren and raise some money for the Kilfinan Church burial vault restoration project located on the Cowal peninsula in Scotland.
When: Sunday May 31th 2008
Where: Tacoma, WA
Tour revitalized Downtown Tacoma for a 5K walk
We would ask that you solicit pledges for the completed walk.
100% of the funds raised will be sent to Friends of Kilfinan Parish Church for use in the Lamont Clan burial vault restoration project. This 13th century church of St Finan located on the Cowal peninsula on west coast of Scotland has some of the best preserved ancient burial stones in western Scotland.

I'm very interested, though I won't know if I can make it until the date draws closer.
I will post this to myspace -- I have a few local (e.g. Seattle /Tacoma) kilted friends on their who can get the word out.

George,
What a great idea! I'm sure it will go well. Unfortunatly, time and distance will keep me from attending. Good Luck!

Looks like you have qualified restoration people working there and they understand the nature of the building. I've had the misfortune of having seen several really bad attempts to "restore" older religious buildings and I can only ask every member of the forum who might ever be in the position to commission any restoration work on any building to please be sure that they're working with qualified people...amateurs need not apply.
Recently my own uncle, in a very well intentioned effort to restore his local church, removed some murals from the sections of a dome surrounding an altar in a Roman Catholic church and only then asked my wife, who's an authority on this sort of thing, if they should have been taken down. You ever get that awful drop-out feeling in the pit of your stomach?
Please keep us posted on the progress of the work.
Best

Clarifaction on the Date, The walk will be on Sunday June 1. I guess I didn't leap year.
Thanks Eric
I will send out details to all that expressed interest as the plan is finalized.
also I want to share the power of this forum and how small the world is becoming. I got an email from the Dunoon Scotland newspaper who found this notice. AMAZING
If anybody in the Puget Sound area is coming to Puyallup for Tartan Day, we will have a table there to discuss this in more detail
