Back on the old Chisholme Trail

Ann was taken out by the care worker to Jedburgh this afternoon so I took another opportunity for a hike up to Chisholme, this time starting from Roberton, a hamlet about five miles south west of Hawick, in whose village hall I have been attending Scottish Country Dancing over the winter.

Chisholme House, which is now the premises of the Beshara School, with a few daffodils to the right of the entrance.

Having strode boldly out to Chisholme I dawdled a bit on the way back and took some pictures. By now the wind was behind me and pushing on those box pleats.

Further along the trail, above Parkhill Farm.

This section was fairly swampy either side of the track, with reeds and gorse growing.

A grassy section of the trail.

The descent into Roberton, with the church on the left and new housing on the right. You can just spot my car, at the road junction, slightly right of centre.

Crossing the Borthwick water on a footbridge.

    Roberton Kirk from the fields.

Roberton Kirk from the road. To the left takes us back to Hawick, to the right the road would take us to Dumfries.

Maybe I'm wrong, but my first thought was to wonder when you had been wandering along the old wagon trails to California through the prairies out West! I do think that one of the more commonly used ones is called the Old Chisholm Trail.

She is very slowly regaining some strength, enjoyed her outing to Jedburgh where she bought me a new navy blue pullover which will go well with some of my kilts.

Thanks Alex. You posted these just after my wife passed, so I missed them. I'm going to include some of these pics in the clan tent next week. Say hi to Ann.

Those are some great pictures. I would really love to take a trip there with my family. Thanks for sharing.
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear
