    Build-a-Bear

Okay, it's not exactly the media, but... it was pointed out to me tonight that the build-a-bear company has a highlander outfit you can put your wee bear in! It's a formal outfit, complete with kilt and fly plaid; charlie jacket, shirt and bow tie; buckle shoes and flashes; belt and sporran; and a wee little Glengarry hat, which appears to have some sort of clan badge on it, but I don't know what it is.

For those unfamiliar, Build-a-Bear is a place where you can do just what the name suggests... make a stuffed animal (no longer restricted just to bears) sometimes complete with a sound chip, and dress it as you choose. I don't know if the kilt outfit is web-offer only, but it looks right cute! I could see myself giving one to a lady friend.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

What is this "giving one to a lady friend" stuff? You know you want one for yourself.

I already have one. I got a build-a-bear for Valentine's day 4 years ago. The following year (maybe it was two) I got the Highlander outfit. They did a fairly decent job of it. The glengarry doesn't sit all that well, but the rest of the outfit is good. Although, if I remember the correctly there is a single "flash" on each side of the hose instead of 2 on one side. The tartan is the Royal Stewart (or something VERY close).

It was a very cool gift. It sits on the top of our bookcase next to my kilted nutcracker.

I have to admit that I tend to accrue Bears...I'm a firm believer in the "No Bears Left Behind" program.

We went through the antique mall nearby once several months ago and there was an adorable Gund Bear that looked like it was wearing a kilt. My daughter picked it up and handed it to me...but it really was a girl Bear in a kilted skirt and matching sweater and little cloche hat...cute but not kilted. I put it down. We went back after a couple of months and there she still was. So I bought her anyway and announced to both my kids that she's waiting for the first granddaughter and when that child arrives, she will go to live with her.

Not that I'm trying to rush anything...just backing myself up.

And she's so cute...who could walk away twice?

    Best

Hmm, my daughter has way too many animals from build-a-bear, how is it that I've never seen this outfit?

    Thanks for the heads-up.

    Best regards,

I've got one. My daughter took me to BAB and we made it together for my 40th Birthday. He originally was wearing exactly what I had on that day. We were at the beach and they had my same surf trunks t-shirt and sunglasses. He has a handsewn tank now. Mine even has a little surf board that my daughter made me make.
