    Abney Park

Abney Park is a steampunk-themed band who models themselves as the crew of the airship Ophelia. If you scroll down the above link you'll see several photos of their guitarist/fiddler wearing a kilt. I don't know if he wears the kilt all the time (in his normal life or in his persona), but I noticed that. And I looked up the web page after seeing their photo (with the kilt) in the Boston Phoenix (print version).

Cool. I find the whole steampunk genre completely fascinating.

I'll have to find some of their tunage to listen to...the whole, polished, artfully costumed and photographed package makes me mighty leery.

I have to be reminded of what we back in the seventies used to call a "haircut band"...all of the accoutrements and some splendidly moussed boufants but limited musical abilities. I certainly will look their stuff up and listen, though.

MP3s are found under the movies tab on their site. I like the website better than the music.

There's a bunch of stuff on YouTube as well.

The whole steampunk thing fascinates me too. I like the aesthetic in as much as I like things with an older, broken-in feel. I don't know if I need everything to have gears and copper tubing, and I don't feel the need to wear a top hat and coat tails. But as a themed band, Abney Park does pretty well.

Steampunk is an awesome aesthetic, and this band does it really well, but their music isn't really my style.

    Question

It's like a garage band broke out at an anime convention!
