Chicago Kilt Outing - Turpin's in town!! (Sorry for the short notice)
Hey Chicago Kilties,
Turpin, Sporran-maker extraordinare (and my brother) will be in town this weekend. We are planning to be at the Duke of Perth at 2913 N. Clark in Chicago from 3pm-6pm this Saturday and hope that some of you can join us.
Here's the website http://www.dukeofperth.com/
Here's their whisky menu http://www.dukeofperth.com/
and here's their beer menu http://www.dukeofperth.com/
I know it's short notice, but I hope some of you can make it.

I would be there, but I must go open cabin for the summer that weekend. It's always interesting to see what damage the chipmunks did over the winter. See you at the games!

I know the holiday weekend can be a tough one to get away for a wee dram with pals, but I hope some of you locals can drop by and say hey to this southerner (OK, full disclosure: South Sider)

Just thought that I'd toss in the post script on this get together...
...as you all know, it's a red letter date when you can get any more than two Chicago kilties together but the Duke of Perth was graced by no fewer than four Xmarksers this past Saturday afternoon. Once again McFarkus sallied forth to sample some of the Duke's not inconsiderable selection of Malts and this time he was accompanied by Turpin, Jenni (GSArcher) and Sam.
It was really nice to see McF and "That Thorfinn Guy" again and great to get to meet Jenni and Sam. I was busy working on the beer menu while McFarkus and Turpin sampled some of the Malts and the Ghillie's Meatloaf. I think that Jenni and Sam tried some of the 'tater appetizers. I settled for a burger.
Anyway, good conversation and a few of the locals looking and trying to figure out "what was up with the kilts?'....though nobody (to my observation, anyway) asked out loud. (What did they expect in the Duke of Perth? Fustinellas?)
Anyway, good to see all of you...hope to have the pleasure again at ISAS Highland Games on the weekend of June 20-21 (shameless bump/plug).

ps: do you not think, though, that that Ghillies Meatloaf, as tasty as it is, would benefit from having less of a dense texture?

Echoing AA, the DoP is a really nice venue with a bang-up selection of libation, and that meatloaf WAS awesome. I want the recipe. Last time I got together with AA neither of us was kilted, so I was glad to see his knees finally. Jenni and Sam were good companions until they left for the Gaelic Park Irish Festival.
And McFarkus..... well, what can I say that hasn't already been said. A great brother.

I seem to remember that Cumin was part of the discussion there...
...it would be a good thing to try to recreate...they're a little short on lamb in these parts but the Italian deli on the next block from me does carry Stilton for the mashed potatoes.
