Getting Blood Out of USAK Semi-Trad

So I'll save the long story and just say that one should NEVER, EVER try to grab a cat when he's in "fight mode." The swelling and pain has gone down quite a bit over the past couple days and no infections.

However, I got a fair amount of blood on my USAK semi-trad. I'm not sure the best way to get it out, because I don't want to use something that will remove the Teflon coating. The blood actually seems to be "on" the fabric instead of "in" the fabric. Should I just use detergent and water, or can I use some other stain remover (OxyClean, etc.) without destroying the Teflon?

I figured I'd ask here, since Rocky works with Teflon-coated PV all the time, and I figured someone, somewhere, has gotten blood on one of their kilts.

Kitty is fine, but he's grounded for a week.

My husband is an orthodontist, and while that is a 'bloodless' part of dentistry, he does occasionally get his own blood on his car-working clothes! He uses hydrogen peroxide, sponged on. Has used it since dental school... works a treat.

I would start by just soaking it in cold water for a day or two... That should remove most of the blood, unless it's REALLY dried on...

I've used it before too, but I want to make sure it won't damage the teflon coating. Hopefully Rocky will be able to chime in sometime later today.

There are the bacteria/enzyme type kitty clean-up solutions like Simple Solution and Natrure's Miracle and they break down blood as well as cat pee-pee and other swell things. The big caveat that I have about those is that some of them contain alcohol as well as the stain eating bugs and I think that the alcohol ones are to be avoided...I've used one and it has actually taken the finish off areas of wooden flooring.

Not that this will turn out to be a good solution but it seems like the enzymes would not affect teflon.

Try cold water first, don't let it set into the fabric if it can be avoided. Cold water will not damage the kilt and it would in my mind be a good place to start.

Yes, a soak in cold water should do the trick. Warm or hot water will "set" the stain, so avoid that...just cold.

I asked Kelly to drop you an email with the "care instructions" for getting out blood. She knows more about that kind of stuff than I do. ;)

Perhaps Kelly could write up something for the "Kilt Advice" or "Kilt-related Tutorials" sections (not just about blood) when she has time?
