Greetings from the Eastern High Sierra of Calif
Hello Fellow Scots and Scot enthusiasts,
My name is Sean M. Alexandre and I currently reside in Bishop, Calif., a small town nestled in the Eastern High Sierra mountain range. I'm descended from the McLennan/Stewart lines. My Great Grandmother, Catherine Stewart McLennan was born in 1891 and immigrated to the US from Glasgow in 1918. I was fortunate to have known her the first 10 years of my life. She passed away in 1981 at the age of 90. Before I tell you about myself, I feel it fitting to tell you about my Nana since my life has been greatly influenced by her.
I would like to think that I'm helping to carry on a part of my Great Grandmothers spirit. She was very vocal and involved in fighting for human rights. She would not stand idly by while others were being down-trodden. As a Scot, she knew what that was like and she had a strong sense of Justice. She was always a generous person and would help anyone in need and would stand in defense of the victims of injustice. She was also very bull-headed and opinionated. And she was usually right. I hope that my own life reflects her same spirit.
So who am I? I'm just a guy who lives a simple life and enjoys the simple pleasures in life. I'm a freelance computer tech and consultant and work exclusively on Macintosh computers. Imagine that. Music is a giant part of my life. I play guitar and sometimes bass but am also interested in learning the pipes. I've been looking for a quality chanter.
I was glad to find this site. I was in the market for a new kilt, my first kilt, and this site helped me greatly. I will be performing a few traditional Scottish tunes at an open mic at my friends deli on June 20th and at a Summer Solstice Celebration on the 21st. These will be my first public appearances in my new kilt. But definitely not my last.
The tartan I chose is a non clan tartan called the Honour of Scotland which I purchased on eBay from Fredonline321. It's an inexpensive acrylic kilt but it's actually a pretty well made kilt for the price. I paid around $90 with shipping. I also just bought a Stewart Black kilt from Stillwaterkilts.com. I should be getting that any day. One day I hope to be able to afford a true traditional worsted wool kilt in the MacLennan tartan but $500+ is a bit more than my finances can handle right now. Not to mention the rest of the outfit like a dress sporran, PC jacket, a nice quality sgian dubh, etc.
In the mean time, I will wear my new kilts loudly and proudly while calling down through the glen. ;-)
That's it for now. I'm looking forward to hanging out and talking to other kilt wearin', Celtic-hearted folks.
Cheers!
Sean

and the life long addiction!
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

from both southern US coasts!
I've been up the 395 and through Bishop numerous times. Might even have stopped there once or twice. Lovely setting. I'm also a high-tech freelancer/consultant, but use Windows as well as Mac. You've found a good spot for everything kilt-related, that's to be sure!

Hello and a warm from Boston, Massachusetts.
Your SWK Black Stewart should be landing at your door about now. Jerry's delivery system is faster than all forms of light. Wear the kilt well and enjoy the addiction.
