I'd like to ask a favor of the rabble.

The software which runs these forums contains many wonderful features. Among them is a Calendar.

The favor I'd like to ask is this: when setting up an event (kilt night, kilt walk, etc), try to add the event to the calendar, if you are able, as well as any post about the event itself. I normally judge my ability/desire to reply to a post based on the post title. If a post carries a title that makes me think I don't have anything to contribute to that post but also has an event date in the body of the post, I will miss the event. An event in the calendar can help to put the word out to everyone even if they don't read a particular post. I had been a member of these forums for a while before I even learned that a calendar existed. Now I usually look at the calendar twice per week to see if there are any events that I want to attend. And, let's face it, no one wants to miss an opportunity to attend a kilted gathering

I don't remember if there is a "welcome" page that all newbies see upon registering but I feel a link to the calendar should be included therein.

There are actually two calendars. The Default calendar displays events and the Birthday calendar displays all the, well you know what it displays.

This raises an interesting point - the title of a new thread can have a lot of impact on the amount of views/responses the thread might receive. The title of the thread is also used as part of our rewrite scheme and becomes part of the thread's actual URL, or Web address.

A thread titled Kilt Night might get attention, but if it is titled Kilt Night in Possum Pelvis, Ontario, it will get a lot more attention. Particularly for those members within driving distance of Possum Pelvis. And it will also contain some better keywords for search engine indexing.

    Just a thought...

That is a very good point, the title of a post can make a huge difference.
