The oldest kilt
Do we know who has the oldest kilt on XMTS?
Does anybody have one made, say, pre-1900?
While we're at it, what about old accessories? My sister has our great-grandfather's powder horn from circa 1880!
Cheers

You might specify whether that oldest kilt is being worn on a regular basis or just in a collection. I guess that Matt Newsome might be the curator of the oldest kilt amongst the kilted brethren but that would be in the Scottish Tartans Museum.

Oldest Kilt
I have just put a post on the thread of the number of kilts owned, about my special kilt.
I found a Farquharson militarty kilt in Lamont's shop in Braemar a few years ago. It is a very large sett, which makes it stand out. I bought it and had it re-made to fit. It was used in the First World War, so it will be about 90 years old. I wear it only once or twice a year - usually just for the annual Clan Farquharson Gathering and the highland games in Ballater. My Clan Chief is the only other person I know who has a similar sett.

I've got a victorian kilt pin, but my oldest kilt is only 10 years old =D

I have an old Fraser kilt that I know is at least 120 years old, but it doesn't fit me. I am hanging on to it to finally give to a cousin of that ilk, when he get's old and big enough. He is in High School right now, and has three kilts, that he enjoys wearing. I figure, about three more years, and it will be his.

A mili-tarty kilt eh, Alan? Well, I think you should be very mindful of where you wear it in that case!!!
Alas, my oldest kilt is still a youngster. Tailored for me in 1973 by Alex Scott of Aberdeen - for over 20 years my only kilt, and still as good as new now!
My silver dress sporran carries the 1921 hallmark, but that probably does not count for anything in this thread.
Take care,
Ham.

1939 Kilt
My husband's grandfather purchased his kilt from Scotland in '39. He was a Senator from BC in Canada. He never wore his tux after that, only the kilt, even when he was presented to the Queen in '55. We had it remade so our middle son could wear it to our Clan Donnachaidh dinner dances. He wore it when he got married last month in New York. One Very Special Kilt in our family but not as old as yours, which sounds like a real treasure. Mary

The standard Red Fraser - I think it's 1424, or so close to it, that it doesn't count.
