Doulamas Jacket
I noticed that the Greeks have a Doulamas jacket that is absolutely awesome and slightly remniscent of a kilt. Does anyone have any idea where to get ahold of one? I'm not having any luck in my searches.

It's Greek? I thought it was the uniform for the Ministry of Silly Walks.

That's something of a running gag on these forums, isn't it? I need to brush up my own silly walk, come to think of it. It involves hunching my back and dragging my hind leg like Igor. I used to do it when I was a child at the store with my mom to embarass her and make her hurry up and take me home.
But no. I don't think I would make that particular comment to one of these guards, lol.

Easy on the Greeks. The Celts may have saved civilization, but without the Greeks, all the good bits would have never been invented!
(mom's Greek, had to chime in)

You will probably have to go to Greece to have one made. I would suggest talking to someone in your Greek community. Look in the phone book for a Greek Orthodox Church or even a Greek Restaurant. Someone will know something. Just a matter of a little leg work.

These are the folks George Gordon, Lord Byron went to fight along side with when he died in Greece.

A Greek coworker has described this uniform to me as that of the mountain warriors in the Turkish period.
The link given by cajunscot describes this garment as a kilt. This one, however, uses TEN yards of fabric, with FOUR HUNDRED pleats!

All the men on my mom's side of the family had to wear those kits for the Greek Independence Day celebrations at our church when they were little. Most of the time the whole thing was hand sewn by the women of the church.

Even a non-Greek restaurant would probably work. If there are any Greek people in your community, chances are one of them runs a restuarant. On my mom's side there's three without even going to second cousins.
Also, beware of Greeks willing to tell you about something. More than likely you'll be there for at least an hour and I'd say about 45% of it will be made up on the spot. There's quite a bit of "truth through legend" when it comes to the Greeks.

A call to the local Greek consulate should net you the name of the PR officer for the Greek Army. A polite letter to the PRO will probably result in his assisting you to obtain the jacket for your collection.
